The Daniel Fast is based on the prophet Daniel's fasting experiences as recorded in the Bible. The fast is a biblically based 21 day partial fast. 

In Daniel 10, the fast resulted in answered prayer and spiritual insight.

Three key components to the Daniel Fast:
1. Only fruits, vegetables, nuts, legumes & whole grains.
2. Only water or natural fruit juice for a beverage.
3. No sweeteners, breads, meat, eggs or dairy products.

WHy are we fasting?

We are going into a pivotal season in our church and need to be spiritually ready for what God has for us. 

We want to start the new year with an attitude of spiritual growth, and the Daniel Fast can put us in that frame of mind.

By humbling ourselves and drawing nearer to God, we can hear the direction He wants us to go and become more like Him.

Foods to eat

  • All fruit: fresh, frozen, juiced, or canned
  • All vegetables: fresh, frozen, dried, juiced, or canned
  • All whole grains: bread, pasta, brown rice, tortilla, etc
  • All nuts & seeds: cashews, peanuts, nut butters, etc
  • All legumes: pinto beans, lentils, black beans, etc
  • All quality oils: olive, canola, peanut, and sesame
  • Beverages: spring, distilled & other pure waters
  • Others: tofu, soy, vinegar, seasonings, herbs, spices


foods to avoid

  • Meat: beef, lamb, pork, poultry, fish, etc.
  • Dairy: milk, cheese, cream, butter, eggs, etc.
  • Sweeteners: sugar, honey, syrup, molasses, etc.
  • Leavened bread: Ezekiel Bread, and baked goods
  • Processed foods: artificial flavors, food additives, chemicals, white rice & flour, artificial preservatives
  • Deep fried foods: potato chips, french fries, corn chips
  • All solid fats: shortening, margarine, lard, high in fat
  • Drinks: coffee, tea, soda, energy drinks, alcohol, etc
